THW is a foundation that has been actively operating on the African continent since 2007.
Our primary mission is to support entrepreneurs, enabling them to create jobs, thereby forming a productive middle class. In collaboration with our partners, THW Foundation has a presence in multiple African countries, with a primary focus on rural and peri-urban areas (Townships).

Introducing the 'Plant a Business' Concept
One of our innovative initiatives is 'Plant a Business', where we initiate and establish business ventures. This project represents the heart of our mission to support and nurture sustainable business growth in Africa. 'Plant a Business' is designed to take a business idea from inception to a fully operational entity.
Here's how it works:
1. Inception with KEI Partners
KEI stands for Knowledge, Experience & Insights. At the beginning of the 'Plant a Business' project, we collaborate with one or more KEI partners who bring valuable expertise to the project. These partners play a crucial role in guiding and mentoring our team.
2. Business Idea Incubation
We generate the business idea ourselves, carefully selecting opportunities that have the potential for significant positive impact. Our KEI partners work with us to refine these ideas and turn them into comprehensive business plans.
3. Seeking Seed Money
To initiate the business, funding is essential. THW Foundation assists in securing seed capital to establish and launch the business concept.
4. Identifying a Local CEO
To lead the Proof of Concept (PoC) and potentially become the CEO later on, we actively search for a local candidate with the skills, experience, and drive to successfully guide the business forward.
5. Proof of Concept (PoC)
The next stage involves the launch of a Proof of Concept (PoC). During this phase, we implement a small-scale version of the business. This allows us to test the feasibility of the concept, make necessary adjustments, and refine the business and financial plans.
6. Roll-out
Following the successful PoC, we assist the newly formed team around the CEO to secure full-fledged financing and support their growth.
Our Preference for Franchise-Like Business Models
We have a strong preference for franchise-like business models that target solo and micro-entrepreneurs. These models are not only scalable throughout the African continent but also have the potential to extend their reach beyond, creating a network of interconnected and thriving businesses.
This franchising concept is particularly suited as well for Western SME’s that currently lack a presence in Africa, offering them a unique opportunity to establish a foothold in this rapidly growing continent.
