Project Description

APV (Appui aux Personnes Vulnérables) works on issues such as access to education for children, the right to health, the fight against GBV and the promotion of gender equality.  The main target groups are young people and the elderly.

They also focus on promoting positive masculinity, citizenship, governance and entrepreneurship.
The APV are currently setting up an office in South and North Kivu to expand their work in this region.
The team is seeking partners to implement their activities.

Project Description

The association "Benin Friends" was founded by Father Gildas Cambia to offer a better future to the people from the rural villages in Atacora, who are living in extreme poverty. They support families in very precarious situations, far below the poverty line. Many of the children do not even have the opportunity to go to school.  Some are true orphans, others have been abandoned by their families because of traditional rituals (animism). They all receive their special attention.

In 2014, a shelter for these children was created in Tepenge by the Father Yantoukoua N'Tia Sanni Servais to provide a safe environment for these abandoned children to go to school. Today, the centre is home to more than 45 boys aged between 5 and 15. And it is open to illiterate young girls who are no longer in school, to learn to sew in the sewing workshop (established in 2020). With the initial contributions, they have supported the purchase of beds & mosquito nets, school supplies and uniforms, sustainable agriculture (equipment, fencing of the vegetable garden) and gender equality by starting a literacy course for the girls.

In addition to the original aim of the association, which is to support the Tepente shelter, they also want to provide support in the areas of water supply and medical care.  Water scarcity is a major problem in Benin in general and in the village of Boukombé in particular. On the one hand, there is the water supply, to which not everyone has access. On the other hand, there is the problem of commercialisation of the available water towers, which exclude some residential areas.

Project Description

NVF-Rwanda aims to identify the underlying reasons for community issues using innovative approaches. This includes assessing the risks and needs of vulnerable populations to ensure that projects address society's current problems and offer long-term solutions.

Through its six projects, NVF-Rwanda aims to tackle malnutrition (Akure Neza), improve sexual and reproductive health (YOMI), prevent divorce (Akaramata), promote mental well-being (My Health), provide high-quality healthcare (Sustainable Health Care Services), and reduce poverty (Do It NOW).

The Team is composed of young volunteers (60%) and adult volunteers (40%) who are dedicated, resolute, and have varied backgrounds in developing solutions for community issues.

NVF-Rwanda trusts in helping, strengthening and giving sustainable solutions to tackle pressing issues. Encouraging beneficiaries to participate in decision-making improves their comprehension and instils self-reliance.

Project Description

The Linda Girl Child Empowerment Project (LGCEP) is currently working in the urban slums of Eldoret Town in Uasin Gishu County, Kenya. There plans are to continue recruiting girls and young women aged 15-25 from all the slums of Eldoret town.   To provide opportunities for these vulnerable girls and young women in the urban slums to develop skills that will enable them to become self-reliant and positive contributors to society. The deserving girls are screened and recruited from the urban slums of Langas from among those who suffer from poverty, high dropout rates at primary and lower secondary levels due to high rates of teenage pregnancy, drug abuse and gender based violence among others.

The Sower Education Centre was established in 2015 by a well-wisher family after realising that despite the government's declaration of free primary education, many children in the neighbourhood were just sitting at home and therefore at risk of not getting an education, thus contributing to the rampant insecurity in the Langas slums of Eldoret town in Uasin Gishu County. The centre provides early childhood education (ECDE) and basic primary education to children from the slums of Eldoret town. These children from poor families might have missed out without the support of The Sower Education Centre.

The school's motto is 'Seeing Beyond Today' and currently has 312 students (185 girls and 127 boys). The school deliberately creates a safe and protective environment for girls and is affiliated to the Linda Girl Child Empowerment Project (LGCEP) by accepting some needy children of vulnerable girls and young women in the urban slums. The school currently employs 10 teachers and two (2) non-teaching staff with limited contributions from individual well-wishers. The school is currently housed in temporary structures and we have started the construction of better structures which is progressing at a very slow pace due to lack of funds.

Project Description

Uganda, like many sub-Saharan African countries, faces major challenges in providing quality and accessible basic education to children and adolescents. Poor education affects health awareness and respect for the rights of children, women and people with disease.  Only 10% of the children between 3 and 5 years of age are enrolled in pre-primary education. This means that out of 100 children, 90 are not involved in any educational program. Many children do not complete their schooling: only 1 in 4 children who start primary school make it to secondary school. Less than half (40 percent) of students are literate at the end of primary school. Children with disabilities are largely excluded from formal schooling because of shortages of special needs teachers and facilities. Secondary education is still inaccessible to most adolescents: early marriage, teenage pregnancy, abuse at schools and school fees keep many teens, especially girls, out of secondary schools. 24 % of Ugandan children have experienced sexual abuse in schools.

Uganda has the 14th highest absolute number of women married or in a union before the age of 18 in the world – 723.000.
In addition, 10.6% of currently married 15-19 years old girls are married to men who have two or more wives.

Customary marriages or informal marriages, where a girl lives with an older man, are significantly more common than registered civil or religious marriages.

Unfortunately, as a result of the Covid-19 crisis, child marriages are expected to rise in the next five years.

  • Create and strengthen a multi-stakeholder local and national platform and referral network to increase awareness about HIV/AIDs and SRHR in northern Uganda by the end of December 2025.
  • Engage public, decision-makers, and strategic influencers to take care of social and cultural norms that affect children, women, and young people.

Project Description

Many young people who have left school in northern Uganda encounter several difficulties. These difficulties encompass scarce learning opportunities and a high rate of joblessness. A lack of vocational skills and practical training restricts their capacity to obtain well-paying jobs or a stable source of income. To tackle these issues and enable young people, this project suggests a complete vocational skills training program.

  • Training Programme: Create a complete training programme that covers different trades like carpentry, tailoring, agriculture, cooking, and information technology. People involved in the economy in this area, including employers and industry experts, will help us to design the programme, based on the area's economic demands. 
  • Training Venues: Set up or make use of current training venues in suitable spots throughout the northern region. These venues will have new resources, tools, and equipment suited to hands-on training. 
  • Skilled Teachers: Hire experienced teachers in vocational training who will provide excellent instruction and guidance to the attendees. The teachers will not only teach technical proficiency but also provide education in life skills and entrepreneurship. 
  • Personal Development: Include training sessions on communication, problem-solving, financial literacy, and leadership development to enhance life skills. These sessions will empower young people with crucial life skills essential for personal growth and resilience. 
  • Working with Local Businesses: Establish relationships with nearby businesses to offer work experience, apprenticeships, and jobs for young trainees. These connections will guarantee a smooth move from training to work. 
  • Checking Progress: Put in place a strong checking system to evaluate the project's effect on employability, income, and personal growth. Frequent evaluations will lead to program enhancements and accountability.

The project will mainly benefit young people who dropped out of school and come from less privileged backgrounds in the northern region of Uganda, aged between 15 and 25. We plan to carry out the project for a year, and may extend the time-frame depending on the results and sustainability efforts. This project aims to provide at least 500 young people who have dropped out of school with valuable job-related skills, which will increase their chances of finding employment and generating income. The project aims to contribute to poverty reduction, social inclusion, and community development.
